We are a nonprofit organization that fights poverty by increasing people's access to information, capital, and markets. TechnoServe implements business growth acceleration activities through the BeniBiz project with the financial support of the Swiss Cooperation, the Netherlands and the Delegation of the European Union Benin. During five (5) years of activity, the project has recruited and supported approximately 6,000 entrepreneurs in Benin who have recorded an average growth of +130% over the 8 cohorts supported. BeniBiz has provided entrepreneurs with the skills and support they need to develop successful businesses. The project is currently in its second phase (2022-2027) with a targeted impact on: (i) consolidating the impact of BeniBiz 1.0, scaling up with strong involvement of local stakeholders, (ii) direct support (training & coaching) to more than 11,000 entrepreneurs, support to Business Support Structures (SAE); (iii) the co-development of support interventions with local strategic actors with a view to sustainability; (iv) the digitalization of the methodology for supporting entrepreneurs and (v) the strengthening of the National Association of Women Entrepreneurs (BeWe). During its first phase, the BeniBiz project began supporting young entrepreneurs classified under category 0. These are young people aged 18 to 35, unemployed and/or with an income-generating activity residing in the four (04) departments of Northern Benin, namely Atacora, Alibori, Borgou and Donga, and whose monthly sales/income (formal or informal) do not exceed 90,000 FCFA. The project is currently supporting the fifth cohort of these young first-time entrepreneurs. Through this support, the project aims to empower and employ young people in its ambition to support approximately 1,680 young subsistence entrepreneurs each year for four (04) years. The support program for these young people includes training in leadership, entrepreneurship and financial education on the one hand, and technical training on the other, including advanced hairdressing training for the benefit of young hairdressers. These young, mostly graduate entrepreneurs offer acceptable hairstyles for women (braids, weaves, blow-drying, and other styles). However, there is a real need for these young people to: Improve their hairdressing techniques (braids, weaving, blow-drying, making wigs and other hairstyles); Know makeup techniques as a complementary activity to hairdressing in order to further improve their income; But also develop their creativity.
